Sardinia was surprisingly inexperienced, with unspoiled landscapes, nice meals, and unforgettable hospitality. The pleasant Sardinian folks reached out and made us really feel welcome on their island. Though we had no language in widespread, Sardinians have been one way or the other in a position to make themselves understood and talk with us.
We visited quite a lot of historic pagan festivals: Gavoi’s Sortilla de Tumbarinos, Perda Pinta’s Mamuthones Competition, Montiferru’s Carrela è Nanti, and the carnivals in Sartiglia and Ovodda, every with their very own style and traditions. I can’t say I loved yet another than one other as they have been all completely different and unbelievable. Our Journey Leaders, Stefano and Sebastiano went out of their approach to verify we noticed every little thing in true element and so we didn’t miss a factor!
Our first lunch was spent with Sardinian shepherds.
Our first lunch, yum.
In Gavoi, Stefano and Sebas satisfied us to color our faces to camouflage us for the Sortillia de Tumbarinos competition. Right here I get my face painted.
On the competition, we heard drums from throughout, the center penetrating sound made it inconceivable to not rush to the road and attempt to seize all that was happening. The entire city got here wearing black with black faces: youngsters, younger and previous, women and men enjoying drums, flutes and triangles whereas gathering within the heart of city to have a good time the final day of Lent. The festivities went on till late within the evening, actually exiting.
This photograph was taken by my fellow traveler, Paulette Hurdlik, of our native information in Gavoi, Valeria Sanna.
In Santu Lussurgiu, horseback riders and neighbors strolled by way of the charming city celebrating the Competition of Carrela è Nanti. The competition consisted of many riders who, in groups of two or three, galloped by way of the slim central avenue of the previous city as they tried to decapitate two leather-based chickens, demonstrating bravery and great using expertise. The riders regarded like knights from medieval occasions.
After the competition in Santu Lussurgiu was over, this fortunate baby acquired to maintain the leather-based chickens.
Nice tour, larger guides, beautiful meals, great expertise!
