This August I went on my fifth Wilderness Journey journey, Mountaineering Norway’s Fjord Nation, and for the third 12 months in a row, I saved an illustrated sketchbook to report what we did every day of our journey. I’ve discovered that it’s a great way to doc my journey with out spending an excessive amount of time with my face behind a digital camera whereas on the path. Every evening after dinner, I went again to my room, seemed by the snaps I’d taken with my iPhone throughout the day, and penciled in textual content and pictures. As soon as happy with the format of the pages, I inked over the pencil marks with a pen after which completed up with watercolors.
Any time I journey, I take alongside a Moleskine A4 watercolor sketchbook, a cheap set of 24 pan watercolors, a small brush, a big brush, a few pencils and black ink pens, and a rubber eraser, and I’m able to report my journey.
These two pages have been from our second day, after we visited the Borgund Stave Church. There was an ideal mixture of nature and tradition on this Norway journey. Think about seeing hovering mountains and medieval structure in the identical day.
This present day introduced one other nice stroll, led by a neighborhood Norwegian information and landowner by the woods and throughout the fields on his personal land, and an enchanting go to to a neighborhood family-run orchard.
It’s nonetheless exhausting to think about we packed in all the things that we did on this present day. It began with a hike throughout a glacier and resulted in a thirteenth century farmhouse listening to a grasp musician play people music on a Hardanger fiddle by firelight.
You’ll be able to see all of the pages, in addition to the entire pages from final 12 months’s Wilderness journey, Mountaineering the Greek Isles (with the pre-trip Archaeological Websites of Classical Greece Extension) at www.susannereece.com. Comply with me on Instagram @susannemreece.
This web page is from the primary official day of the journey after we met up with the climbing group. We toured the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum after which had a ferry journey from Athens to the island of Tinos. The journey had such lengthy, busy days, that I used to be barely in a position to sustain and solely managed to do one web page a day.
